Thank you to everyone who came out to support Filip and John at the Baltimore Comicon this past weekend. As you know, we were a finalist for the BEST NEW SERIES at the Harvey Awards. Now we have proof! As you can see from the above program, we were on the ballot and everything! Sadly, we did not take home the prize, which went instead to Mark Waid's worthy new DAREDEVIL series. Sad but true. We do take some solace in losing to a master of the form, though, and really the cliche is true; sometimes it is an honor just to be nominated.
Here are the boys a few moments after the ceremony ended (Filip on the left, John on the right). It is rare that the co-writers of the series are on the same coast (Filip lives in CA, John in NC) so any excuse to get together is a good one, especially a lavish banquet and awards ceremony attended by a another pair of comic-book greats...
The highlight of the evening, of the year for us, occurred when Stan Lee took the stage to give a Lifetime Achievement Award to John Romita Jr. To no one's, and possibly everyone's, surprise, Lee, showman that he is, invited his long time collaborator, John Romita Sr., onto the stage to give a father's perspective on the award. Both men were humble and full of great praise for the younger Romita. Filip and John had front row seats for this moment and it is one they will certainly never forget.
Just think; without these two men there would be no Mary-Jane Watson, and worse, no...
